SCARED.

PARANOID. WORTHLESS. VULNERABLE.
WEAK.

POINTLESS.

FALSE HOPE. PURPOSELESS.

Let's admit it. All of us have felt these emotions and more at one time or another. The truth is that we are all sinners: weak human beings that are vulnerable in both our morality and our mortality.

Sometimes our temporary situation just overshadows the long-term reality. We buy into the lies of the devil and the world about who we are, and what we deserve. We put on a strong disguise for others and pretend everything is ok, even when we feel like a fraud.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE.

At St. James, we are all in your exact situation.
We gather together because of this simple fact:

Christ has actually and historically died on the cross for all sinners (you included). Three days later, he rose again that we may have life, and have it abundantly.

He is worth listening to.

God has proven that He cares for you, and sends His church to do the same: to care for others and point them to this new reality commenced by Christ.

No matter your situation, remember this:

You were made to be Alive in Christ.

Continuing the tradition of serving Chicago with the peace, hope, and love of Jesus.

  • St. James is Building on Christ and Impacting Lives in Chicago!

This was the case when the school opened in 1857, and when the congregation was formed in 1869. St. James was a place of refuge and respite during the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, and during the Great Depression in the early 1930's. But, greater than food and shelter, St. James provides hope and peace in Christ: because the Good News is that in Christ we are sheltered from our sins, satan and even death itself!

God continues to provide shelter for the people of Chicago through the community of St. James. Through our school, we offer an outstanding academic education that flows from a Christ-centered worldview. Our school is the longest continuously operating school in Chicago!

Our large spectrum of small groups provides a rich community for people to grow closer to God and one another through bible study and fellowship.

God cares for people’s whole being. Therefore, St. James serves people in need throughout our community in food banks, assisted living homes, women’s shelters and many other areas where there's a need.

Ultimately, the whole community finds its identity and purpose in our weekly worship services where the full spectrum of God’s Word is preached in ways relevant for today, but always centered on God’s love for sinners in Christ.

From Our Community

Clay and Beth Stroup
We are blessed by the strong community of St James, which surrounds us with a life as Christ taught us to live; full of love, respect, understanding, honesty, hard work and giving. Our four children have gained from St James and it’s teachers the necessary critical thinking skills and the Christian moral armor required to cope, thrive and succeed in this often challenging world.

The Stroup Family

Olivia Becker
When I attend St. James I know I'll experience clear doctrine, loving fellowship, and a vibrant community. Every Sunday I am comforted with the truth I need to hear: that ALL are redeemed from sin and hopelessness, even me. I've met many wonderful people and have created lasting friendships.

St. James has meant the world to my family and me. In addition to witnessing our two girls beautifully develop at the school, we get the privilege of being led each and every Sunday by a visionary, God fearing Senior Pastor, in Pastor Hess. St. James is the most amazing community we’ve experienced. To say we’re blessed to be part of what St. James is delivering, would be an understatement.
